required safety equipment for
Seat Belts, Bicycles and In-Line Skates
The
following information is being provided to educate parents and drivers
on safety restraints and equipment that is required under New York
State Law.
Following sections can be found in the
New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Safety
Belts and Child Restraints: |

Rear
seat under the age of 8, appropriate child restraint seat required. |

VTL 1229c2 |
Front
seat under the age of 8, appropriate child restraint seat required. |
||
|
3.
VTL 1229c3 |
Driver
seat belt required. |
||
|
Effective
April 19th, 2005, Amendment allows a child under the age of 4, who weighs
more than 40 pounds, or a child of any weight who is 4,5 or 6 years of age,
to be restrained solely by a lap belt if the vehicle is not equipped with a
combination lap and shoulder harness belts, or if those combination belts are
available, but are being used to restrain other passengers under the age of
16. |
